Chris Turpin
Vocals, Bass Guitar, Tenor Guitar, Ukelele, Kazoogle and Percussion
Chris is Swindon born and bred. He is married to Michelle and they have five daughters and seven grandchildren. He is the founder member of Friggitt and has an extensive repertoire of nautical songs which form the nucleus of the Friggitt set.
Folk Music has always been a major interest for Chris; he has been a member of Swindon Folksingers Club since 1975 and is a regular floor singer at Swindon and other clubs, singing unaccompanied nautical and dry land songs. He is particularly inspired by the songs and singing of Cyril Tawney and Tom Lewis.
Chris had toyed with the idea of forming a shanty band since the 1990's and formed the original Friggitt for a one-off performance at Swindon Folksingers Club June 2007. After this he kept Friggitt going with Ted and then Peter joined at the end of 2010.
Chris is the main singer in Friggitt, with a powerful baritone voice. He has always been fascinated by the bass guitar and started playing in 2007 and also plays the tenor guitar and ukulele. He adds solid bass-lines and interesting rhythms to Friggitt's tunes and accompanied songs. |
