Peter Coggins

Peter Coggins
Vocals, Melodeon, Guitar, Mandolin and Percussion

Peter has lived in Swindon with his wife Ferhan since 2006 when he came to teach at the local Further Education College. He grew up in Enfield, Middlesex and started to play guitar during the late1960s. The Beatles had a big influence on his early musical development.

Peter played in Rock & Roll bands during the 1970's and did some busking on the London Underground in the 1980’s.

A big fan of Rory Gallagher, Led Zeppelin and Ten Years After in the early 1980’s, Peter became interested in the folk and acoustic aspects of their music; this became a deep interest in traditional music and folk culture. Peter extended this interest into Morris Dancing and has played for various Morris Dancing sides, something which he still loves to do.

After returning from working in Istanbul for a number of years, Peter threw himself back into the folk scene and has been a member of Swindon Folk Singers Club since 2006 where he sings and frequently plays tunes on the melodeon and guitar. He also attends other folk clubs in Hertfordshire and London when possible.

Peter joined Friggitt at the end of 2010. He has a strong bass voice, takes lead vocals and adds great depth to the harmonies. His melodeon, guitar and mandolin playing greatly increase the range of tunes Friggitt play and add new sounds to their accompanied songs.
